Motawi Tileworks Introduces New Primrose, Calico Cat Art Tiles
Motawi Tileworks (The Tileworks) has broadened its collection of historically inspired ceramic tile with two new additions: 4x8 Primrose and 4x8 Calico Cat. Primrose ($61) is based on an art nouveau tile design. Nawal Motawi, owner and artistic director of The Tileworks, experimented with many iterations before arriving at a pared-down version with Arts and Crafts influences. Primrose is available in Dark Oak, Purple and Yellow.
4x8 Calico Cat joins The Tileworks’ midcentury-style Charley Harper line, which includes more than 30 art tiles based on the wildlife imagery of artist Charley Harper (1922–2007). Calico Cat ($69) is available in Cream, Olive, Sage and Storm Blue colorways.
“Arts and Crafts and midcentury modern are two of my favorite styles in which to work,” said Motawi. “It was gratifying to watch the Primrose design emerge from many drafts. And, of course, we enjoy bringing more of Charley Harper’s spirited work to a much-loved collection. Cat lovers, rejoice!”
The new art tiles can be purchased online at motawi.com and in the Motawi gallery (170 Enterprise Drive in Ann Arbor). Motawi art tiles are also sold in more than 300 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Tiles are suitable for installation or display in frames or easels and have notches for hanging.
Founded in 1992, Motawi Tileworks makes handcrafted tile as art pieces and for residential and commercial installations. The company releases new art tiles regularly, including original designs and those based on the work of celebrated artists such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Charley Harper.
