On February 27 and 28, 2026, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Historic Resources Committee (HRC) holds their 2026 Colloquium at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This year's colloquium, called “Historic Preservation in an Age of Disruption,” offers preservation professionals a chance to grapple with how rapid change is reshaping the built environment. Hosted at Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Taliesin West in Scottsdale—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark—the gathering situates urgent historical preservation questions in a storied desert setting, in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains.

Over two days, attendees will explore how shifting public policy, accelerating climate impacts, and emerging technologies like AI are converging to challenge traditional preservation practices. Sessions and conversations are designed to help stewards of historic places rethink strategies for resilience and adaptation.

Agenda highlights of the event include a keynote by featured speaker Jorge Otero-Pailos, the director and professor of historic preservation at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, along with panel discussions and a twilight tour of Taliesin West.

Along with providing opportunities for timely historic preservation conversations, the event is also a chance to build community and network with industry experts like preservation architects, planners, and advocates in an unforgettable setting. Register now for the event.
