The central axis of the house extends from the entry door through the stair hall and in turn through this living room, which occupies 2/3 of the southern side of the house, overlooking the property’s southern meadow. A single door, mimicking the proportions of the adjacent floor-to-ceiling windows on the room’s southern side, opens out to a lawn terrace. At the room’s western end, one of a pair of broad bay windows on the house’s western façade overlooks a hedged garden room and contributes to the room’s airy, light-filled quality. A Regency-style marble mantel was custom made in England for the room.
