On June 19, 2025, Spanish restoration architect Eduardo Martínez Moya visits the Coral Gables Museum in Florida to lead a talk on the recent restoration of La Giralda in Sevilla, Spain, a sister city to Coral Gables.

Utilizing re-purposed Roman ruins, La Giralda was originally built as a minaret for the Mosque of Ibn ‘Addabas in al-Andalus in the 12th century. It was later repurposed as a bell tower for the Catholic Cathedral of Sevilla. One of Europe's most treasured architectural landmarks, the structure has undergone an intensive and lengthy restoration In recent years, overseen by Martínez Moya and completed in 2024.

As the project's restoration architect, Martínez Moya led the efforts of the documentation, investigation, design, and coordination of the restoration of this iconic tower that has been standing for nearly eight centuries. His presentation takes attendees on a deep dive to understand the building materials from different eras plus the contemporary strategies for conservation, stabilization, and renovation of a UNESCO World Heritage site visited by millions every year.

This presentation is part of the exhibition La Giralda: Transformation, Influence, Restoration, currently on view at the Coral Gables Museum. The exhibition highlights La Giralda's legacy, its recent restoration, its architectural influence, including its connection to Coral Gables.
