Traditional Building Conference Series 2026: Salem, Cape May, Charleston
Charleston, South Carolina
The Traditional Building Conference Series 2026 lands in three interesting and important historic American cities in 2026. It visits Salem, Massachusetts on March 24 and 25; Cape May, New Jersey on June 16 and 17; and Charleston, South Carolina on November 3 and 4.
Now in its 25th year, the Traditional Building Conference serves architects, builders, restoration and renovation contractors, interior designers, historic preservation professionals, building owners, and facilities managers who work on residential, commercial, ecclesiastical, and institutional buildings.
Each two-day conference features morning seminars and tours with traditional building professionals. Combined, these seminars will deliver up to 13 AIA Continuing Education Units (CEUs) including several Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) credits over the two days. Afternoons feature walking tours of these historic cities, highlighting traditional buildings which celebrate and explain America's architectural history, from the 1600s to the Gilded Age.
The first Traditional Building Conference of 2026 visits Salem, Massachusetts on March 24 and 25. In this historic city, the Federal period work of architect Samuel McIntire will inform designers and craftspeople alike. The House of the Seven Gables, the Gedney House (1665), and the Phillips House (1821) will provide attendees with a living laboratory of learning.
In Salem you'll also find seminars about best practices for sustainability and historic preservation, architectural hand drawing, traditional design for new buildings, historic millwork, and a look at the "legacy of Joseph Everett Chandler (1863-1945)," which will provide fodder for conversation among professional peers and collaborators.
