Decorating and Restoration:
Conrad Schmitt Studios, founded in 1889, provides interior decoration and restoration for buildings of architectural and historic significance, such as the Wang Center in Boston, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, and the Chicago Hilton. Decorative services include the investigation and documentation of original design schemes; decorative techniques such as gilding, glazing, marbleizing, stenciling, trompe l'oeil and graining; also, the creation, conservation, restoration and replication of murals, mosaics and other artwork.

Stained Glass:
Conrad Schmitt Studios also has one of the oldest and largest glass studios in the United States, and it is recognized for outstanding craftsmanship in the creation, conservation and restoration of stained glass. In the 20,000 square foot facility, artisans create, conserve and restore thousands of square feet of stained glass each year, including priceless windows by John LaFarge, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Mayer & Munich. New glass projects can be executed in a variety of design styles with any type of glass. Recent new windows have included contemporary, abstracted designs using dichroic glass; traditional, painted windows with architectural borders; and an Art Nouveau style window, using opalescent glass, to coordinate with an existing window by Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Etched Glass:
In addition to stained glass, the firm offers a unique, patented, etched glass. Unlike the more typical frosted etch, Leptat creates a deeply etched, crystalline surface of varied textures. This signature glass enhances the environments of churches, restaurants, hotels and businesses for a lower cost than stained glass. It can be used for windows, doors, and partition walls, including sliding glass partition doors that can be stored in a wall pocket. Designs are executed in abstract, symbolic or pictorial designs, and in addition to clear, the glass can be stained, painted or accented with gold leaf.

Murals, Mosaics, Sculpture and Statuary:
Conrad Schmitt Studios creates works of art that are designed to enhance their surroundings, while soothing and uplifting the human spirit. Murals, mosaics, sculpture and statuary are designed by CSS to be site-specific, so they are created particularly to enrich the space where they belong, and research is conducted to identify appropriate, inspiring, artistic themes. The Studio also conserves and restores fine art, especially murals and mosaics.

Conrad Schmitt Studios actively seeks out highly skilled artists and craftspeople from the U.S. and abroad. Many have been trained in the centuries-old traditions of stained glass, decorative painting, sculpture and mosaic. At the same time, the artisans are creative and knowledgeable in the latest techniques as they pertain to execution and application.
